Boiled Rice

Rice is a staple in Indian kitchens but one of the most fattening also…So, today while Mum was making Rajmah, I decided to make boiled rice and took an oath to make it always from now on. This makes me relish my favourite dish Rajmah Chawal without counting on the calories :p

So here’s the recipe…try it out!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 8 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Method:

  1. Wash rice in several changes of water till the water looks clean. Drain all water.
  2. Keep a pan half full of water (about 8 cups) on fire. Add salt and lemon juice. When the water boils, add the washed rice. Stir with a fork. Boil on medium heat for about 8 minutes. Check a grain of rice to see if it is done. Remove from fire.
  3. Strain the rice in a colander or a big strainer. Discard extra water. Fluff with a fork to let the steam escape, so that the rice grains do not stick together. Keep covered till serving time.
